About

Every week, we present a fast and fun trivia game where general knowledge is taste-tested from a specific topic…or specific knowledge on a general topic. Either way, the delicious bits of trivia minutiae will be served up, piping hot!

Our Editor’s Take

The explanation behind the name Brain Ladle Trivia might sound odd, but it makes complete sense to the host of the podcast, Davo. He likes to envision the brain as a bowl of beef stew. Some people’s soup has only meat and potatoes. Other people like peas, carrots, or those weird pearl onions. The brain ladle stirs the brain up and draws out all the goodness. The type of person with those pearl onions and peas is the same person with weird knowledge and facts. The ladle brings them to the surface so everyone can enjoy them.

That’s the goal of this podcast. It seeks to dig inside people’s brains and discover the most obscure information. It does so with a quiz format. Each episode revolves around one niche topic. For instance, one episode is about Batman and anything related to it. It includes facts about the comics, movies, plotlines, and more. Another episode’s title is “Cult Classic.” This one discusses iconic lines from such movies or hidden messages and motifs. Sometimes, the topic is less obvious. In the episode “A Day at the Races,” the questions are about anything related to racing, like the arms race.

Within each theme, there are six categories and four questions. A correct answer is worth ten points. The final answer is worth up to 100 points. The participants of this quiz podcast don’t play to win. They do it for the love of esoteric trivia information and funny banter. Most of the podcast’s appeal is in the way the contestants make fun of each other. They are not afraid to get an answer wrong, but the others will not let them forget about it. There’s plenty of sarcasm and quips, but all in good fun. Sometimes, there’s so much chatter that they forget the question.

Listeners of Brain Ladle Trivia might enjoy playing along with the quiz. The host provides the answer right after each question so they can know if they got it right away.
